This tutoring service offers a supplemental educational tutoring service. The Federal Government passed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 to provide additional academic instruction to underperforming schools. This would include tutoring, remediation, and small classes to exist outside of the regular school day free of cost.

The purpose of the SAS is to foster interest in, and promote the general knowledge of, astronomy and related sciences ... and have fun in the process. The SAS offers lecture and tutorial programs at our monthly meetings, public viewing opportunities at public schools, and monthly at University of the Pacific, the Nature Nights program at Oak Grove Regional Park, and special astronomical events.

Children between the ages of newborn through 5 years are eligible to be in the program. The Read to Me, Stockton! partners are responsible for signing up the children, promoting the program to the community and funding the project. Once a child is enrolled, they receive their own free book every month, delivered to them by the Dollywood Foundation. The Dollywood Foundation chooses the books, based on the age of the children receiving them.

Adults learn to speak, read, write and understand English. Civics Education is infused into the curriculum. ESL/Citizenship courses are offered for non-citizens who wish to prepare for naturalization. Family Literacy classes are designed to teach adults how to provide assistance to children in school.
